After a refusal and extensive debate, Mayo Chief Executive Peter Hynes eventually agreed to provide a report to councillors on all properties and lands in the ownership of Mayo County Council at yesterday’s monthly meeting of Mayo county Council.
Fine Gael councillor in Castlebar Donna Sheridan had requested such a report together with information on the state and value of the properties at yesterday’s meeting, but she had made a similar request and had it seconded at the October meeting of the authority but failed to get it.
Yesterday the Chief Executive Peter Hynes explained that a report like this would be tedious and take up a lot of council staff time to compile and initially said he would not be providing it but that cllrs could access what’s termed the council’s “assets register” instead.
But cllr Sheridan did not accept this response and again called for a report and her request was seconded and carried.
The councillor explained to Midwest News today why she persisted in securing a commitment that the report she asked for will be delivered.
