Five projects from four schools in Mayo have qualified for the 2020 BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition.

This will be the 57th year of the event, which takes place at Dublin's RDS in January.

Nationally, 550 projects involving over 1100 students have been selected, and a significant number of projects this year examine social issues such as mental health, transgender rights and the effects of social media on young people, as well as climate change.

In Mayo, students from St Muredach's College in Ballina, Jesus & Mary Secondary school in Crossmolina, St Joseph's Secondary School, Charlestown and Coláiste Mhuire in Tourmakeady will now being preparing the projects for the exhibition in January.
