A Sligo native has been remanded to Harristown prison following a sitting of Sligo District court yesterday charged with possession of cannabis for sale and supply in the Ballina area.
Gardai made a seizure of suspected cannabis resin with an estimated street value of over €40,000 on Monday last .
The seizure occurred when two vehicles were stopped by members of An Garda Siochana on Clare St in Ballina.
The suspected cannabis was seized from the vehicles and four peple were arrested and brought to Ballina Garda Station where they were detained for questioning under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
Three were subsequently released and files are being prepared in relation to each of them for DPP direction.
The fourth appeared before Judge Kevin Kilraine in Sligo District Court yesterday, charged in relation to the possession of cannabis for sale or supply in the Ballina area.
The State applied to have the accused remanded in custody and the Judge remanded the man to the Harristown court sitting in Castlerea tomorrow.
A file is being prepared for the DPP.
