A gold medal, marking the 40th anniversary of the visit of Paul John Paul II to Ireland and to Knock was donated today to Knock Shrine.

The Dublin Mint Office has produced a range of medals to celebrate the anniversary of the historic Papal visit.

Knock was one of the locations visited by the Pope during the 1979 visit to Ireland - which was the centenary year of the apparitions in Knock Shrine in August 1879.

Parish Priest of Knock Fr Richard Gibbons told Midwest Radio that he was delighted to accept the medal today on behalf of the Shrine....
