40,000 euro worth of cannabis was seized by gardai in a planned operation in Ballina town yesterday (Monday) evening.
Gardai attached to Ballina garda station stopped a number of vehicles on the Sligo Road in Ballina yesterday, Bank Holiday Monday.
As a result, four people were arrested and a significant quantity of cannabis was seized, with an estimated street value in excess of 40,000 euro.
Two people remain in garda custody this morning, they are still being questioned at Ballina garda station.
Gardai say this operation is part of the Thor operation that fights against organised crime and drug dealing in the Ballina / North Mayo area. Gardai have described the seizure as a severe blow to those involved in drug dealing in the north Mayo area.
Yesterday’s operation was part of a number of searches over the weekend under operation Thor and included the seizure of a significant quantity of fireworks destined for the Ballina area.
