Following a number of calls from listeners this afternoon to Midwest News about a rumoured development at a hotel on Achill Island – that up to 70 migrants are to be housed from tomorrow (Thurs) by the Dept of Justice at the Achill Head Hotel, Keel, Midwest News contacted the Dept.
The campaign group Yellow Vest Ireland posted this message on its facebook page today
Up to 70 Migrants will be housed by the department of Justice at the Achill Head Hotel, Keel East, Pollagh, Co. Mayo.
They are being transported to the hotel and will take up accommodation from tomorrow.
Achill Island in County Mayo is the largest of the Irish isles, and is situated off the west coast of Ireland.
It has a population of Keel and the surrounding area is 541
A spokesperson at the Dept’s press office, asked us to submit the details in an email to them, they have since acknowledged receipt of the query, and hope to respond to us before Evening Edition at 5.30pm.
