Ballyhaunis is a positive example of a rural town that has “embraced diversity,” according to the Minister of State for immigration and integration David Stanton.

Yesterday, Mr Stanton and Minister for Rural Affairs Michael Ring attended an integration event in the town.

The event heard from speakers such as former Cork senior hurler and footballer Seán Óg Ó hAilpín and was organised by the Department of Justice and the Department of Rural and Community Development.

Ballyhaunis was found to be the most diverse town in the country in the 2016 Census, with migrants from 20 different ethnicities making up more than half of the population.
