Motorists are being advised that Gardai will conduct a National Slow Down Day tomorrow, starting at 7am in the morning, for a 24-hour period.
The road safety initiative is to remind drivers of the dangers of speeding, and to increase compliance with speed limits.
The overall aim is to reduce the number of speed-related collisions, and save lives and injuries on our roads.
Gardai say excessive speed is a factor in one-third of fatal road collisions.
The number of people detected for speeding is up 15% so far this year, compared to last year, with one motorist in Co Donegal caught recently driving at 223 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.
