The Rural Development Minister has dismissed claims the Carbon Tax is a surcharge on rural Ireland.

In the Budget it was announced it's increasing by six euro - meaning a rise in the cost of diesel and petrol and also an increase in heating fuels from next May.

However, Michael Ring says everyone will be affected and not just people living in rural parts of the country.

He says it's important efforts are made to reduce our carbon footprint:
