Irish Water, working with Roscommon County Council, is investing €2 million euro to complete essential upgrades to the wastewater treatment plant at Monksland, Co Roscommon.

The works, once complete will increase capacity, and provide a platform for growth and development in Monksland and the surrounding areas; enable the wastewater treatment  plant to handle increased storm water overflows protecting the receiving waters of the River Shannon.

The works are being carried out by Glan Agua, and are due to be substantially completed in December.

Eunan Canvan of Irish Water told Midwest News today that the Monksland Wastewater Treatment Plant is the largest, and one of the most important in County Roscommon.
