The Ballina Digital Hub in the former Military Barrracks is expected to create over 200 jobs in the town centre.
The Hub is a €7m project with €3.2m already allocated towards the delivery of Phase 1 of the project and Part 8 planning permission has already been granted for the project by the Council.
Technology, digital media and internet companies are expected to create 210 jobs within three years in the new enterprise cluster that will provide office spaces for 20 companies and house a high-end rum distillery.
Approval of Urban Regeneration and Development Fund was granted by the Minister for Housing, Eoghan Murphy TD for the Ballina Innovation Quarter project last December.
Fine Gael Senator Michelle Mulherin says that the approval of the project is brilliant for the North Mayo town.
She told Midwest News that the project has moved to the detailed design stage and is a priority for Mayo County Council.
