The conditions in which the fire crew in Crossmolina are based is simply unacceptable, according to local Fianna Fail councillor Michael Loftus. At present the fire crews work out of prefab buildings contained in the old fire station.
Capital funding for a new fire station in Crossmolina has been approved for next year (2020), but councillor Loftus says he’s concerned that it may become a victim of the many cutbacks required by government to fund the overrun in the new National Childrens Hospital budget.
At this week’s monthly meeting of Mayo County Council he again expressed concern that the plans and preliminary works for the new structure are not already in place.
He told Midwest News today that he believes the Crossmolina fire station premises is the worst in the country.
