There was extensive rain overnight which has led to flooding in many parts of the region.

Residents in Crossmolina are closely monitoring the situation with the water level of the River Deel reaching bridge height this morning.

However, sources say they are hopeful that there is no great risk to the situation getting any worse in the town or any damage to businesses.

The message local business people are getting out today is that the town is very much open for business.

Meanwhile, Clare Lake/McMahon Park in Claremorris has been closed today due to extensive flooding.

Mayo County Council says there is localised flooding in parts of Swinford, Ballina and Killala this morning as well as several parts of the Erris region.

The Mayo Road Safety Officer, Noel Gibbons, has issued an appeal to motorists to exercise caution on the roads due to flooding at a number of locations.
