On Sunday next (Aug 25th) the extensively renovated Straide Davitt Community Hall will be officially opened by the Minister for Community and Rural Development Michael Ring.
The Minister is due to officiate at 5pm, and the festivities, open to the entire community, get underway at 4pm.
The new centre is located along the N58 between Ballyvary and Foxford. It has a range of upgraded facilities and was funded under the Leader programme, together with contributions from Mayo county councillors and local fund raising events.
The ambitious €220,000 project has had two major local fundraising efforts, a memorial wall on the entrance to the centre where Straide family names are displayed, and a monster raffle. The draws in the monster raffle will take place on Sunday.
Sunday is the second big day on the Straide calendar this Summer, as last month the community came together to show what it had to offer as finalists in the national Pride of Place Awards.
Kate O’Hara the Vice Chairperson of the Straide Community Development Group and committee member Rosa Meehan have been telling Midwest News today more about
the huge local effort and the excitement- as they prepare for this Sunday’s celebration
