Bus Eireann has apologised to passengers, after a door fell off a bus in Co Mayo yesterday.

Passengers on the 10am Sligo to Galway service were alarmed, when the door fell away from the bus near Charlestown, about an hour into the journey.

Bus Eireann says no passengers were injured in the incident on Route 64 when the vehicle experienced a mechanical fault with the door.

The company says the driver followed all safety procedures, and a replacement bus was dispatched to bring passengers on their journey to Galway, with a short delay.

Bus Eireann has apologised for any inconvenience caused to passengers using the service yesterday morning.
