The HSE has confirmed to Senator Michelle Mulherin that a full time GP position in Lahardane has been offered to an applicant, and it is now awaiting the successful applicant’s response to the job offer.
There has been increasing concern in Laherdane over the level of GP cover in the area, and a campaign group has been formed to ensure a full time GP position is restored, following the retirement of the GP last year, and the ending of a locum GP’s contract at the end of this month.
The community is also keen to find accommodation in the village for a new GP.
A public meeting was convened in Lahardane on this issue earlier this month, and Fine Gael Senator Mulherin , who was in attendance, told Midwest News last week that clarification on the HSE’s plans for Lahardane were difficult to elicit.
Today she told Midwest News that she has been speaking to Senior HSE management and has secured what appears to be “possible good news”.
