The lack of any disabled car parking space on the street where the National Drivers License Office is located in Castlebar is completely unacceptable, according to local Fine Gael councillor Ger Deere.

He raised the matter at the monthly meeting of Castlebar Municipal District.

The office is in place on New Antrim Street for more than three years now, and many elderly and disabled drivers must access the premises for license renewal, and are forced to walk / use a wheelchair for a long distance after parking their vehicle.

Council Engineer Ann Sweeney told councillors that she will look into the situation and agreed that access to the busy office is difficult for people with mobility issues.

Speaking to Midwest News councillor Deere said immediate action is needed.
