Residents in Balla and commuters using the N60 are concerned about vehicles increasing speed and breaking the lights at the ongoing roadworks on the outskirts of Balla village.

That's according to Fine Gael General Election candidate in Mayo Alan Dillon, who along with Castlebar Councillor Ger Deere, met this week with residents in the Churchfield Estate in Ballina.

Alan Dillon believes the CCTV cameras put in place to detect drivers breaking the red lights are not working, and says further action is needed by Mayo County Council, the contractors and Gardai and remind drivers to slow down and heed the instructions from traffic control personnel and temporary road signs at this location.

Alan Dillon says he will be raising the matter with the Mayo Road Safety Office, while his colleague Councillor Deere will bring the issue up at the next meeting of the Castlebar Municipal District.
