For a second successive day, psychiatric nurses are refusing to work overtime in a dispute with the HSE over recruitment and retention of staff in mental health services.

The action is impacting on community services across the West, according to the Psychiatric Nurses Association.

The PNA says nurses are frustrated that little or no progress has been made in talks to try and resolve the crisis, while the HSE says the overtime ban will have a significant impact on mental health services.

Rory Kavanagh - Industrial Relations Officer with the PNA in this region - says the action shows that many services in Connacht are dependent on their members working overtime to fill vacancies .
