The West of Ireland is experiencing continental temperatures today, as a heatwave sweeps across Europe.
A status yellow high temperature warning remains in place until 7 pm this evening for 6 counties - including Mayo and Galway.
Figures from Met Eireann this evening indicate the Shannon enjoyed the highest temperature nationally today at 28 degrees.
In this region, Newport in Mayo and Markree Castle in Sligo recorded 25 degrees, with 24 degrees in Claremorris and Athenry and 23 degrees in Knock.
Met Eireann forecaster Pat Clarke told Midwest News that the warm temperatures will continue tomorrow and into the weekend.....
