Gardai in Galway are appealing for witnesses following two separate assaults in the city last weekend.
In the early hours of Saturday morning - between 1.30 and 2.30am -a man in his 40's was seriously injured as he came the assistance of another man who was being assaulted.
He was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Galway.
The second man, who was in his late 60's received serious but not life-threatening injuries and did not require hospital treatment at the time.
Gardai are appealing to any witnesses to come forward - in particular any witness who came to the assistance of an injured man outside the Brown Thomas store.
Also, any motorists who may have dash-cam footage, or any taxi drivers in the area between 1.30 and 2.30am last Saturday morning are asked to contact Galway Garda Station at 091 - 53 8000.
