As roadworks continue on the N60 on the outskirts of Balla, Mayo County Council has installed two high-definition CCTV cameras in a bid to crack down on motorists breaking traffic lights and speeding through the road works site.

Two CCTV cameras have now been installed where upgrade works are ongoing on the N60 at Lagnamuck, Balla in a bid to stop motorists breaking the traffic lights, and speeding through the road works.

Gardai will also have a presence at this location to monitor driver behaviour, and enforce the lower speed limit where road works are underway.

Footage from the CCTV cameras will be fed back to Gardai, who will issue fixed charge penalty notices to any drivers found speeding or breaking the traffic lights.

Mayo's Road Safety Officer Noel Gibbons says this campaign is aimed at reminding drivers to slow down and heed the instructions from traffic control personnel and temporary road signs, to keep roadside workers safe while these upgrade works are underway.
