Gardai will be targeting drug-drivers during the June Bank Holiday weekend road safety campaign.
In the first four months of this year, there's been a 15% increase in the number of arrests for driving under the influence -which includes alcohol, drugs or both - compared to the same period last year.
2,694 drivers were arrested between January and April this year for driving under the influence.
Gardai say their priority over the Bank Holiday weekend is to ensure that people using the roads are not put at risk by the minority of motorists who drive while under the influence of drink or drugs.
Roadside screening will be carried out at checkpoints across the country, while Gardai will also be targeting speeding, non-wearing of seatbelts and mobile phone use.
