The Air Corps was brought in to assist local fire crews in tackling an extensive gorse fire which broke out in the Ballycroy area yesterday afternoon.
The fire was brought under control by about 7 o'clock yesterday evening.
Local FG Councillor Gerry Coyle is again pleading with the public to be vigilant, to try and prevent such fires starting in dry vegetation.
He praised the efforts of the local Belmullet fire crew and neighbouring fisre crews for their work in putting out the blaze.
He added that gorse fires can put the lives of fire crews and others at risk, and also threaten homes and other properties.
