Separate prices between “swim and gym” at the new local authority 11 million euro Lough Lannagh Leisure Complex in Castlebar, was echoed again this week by Mayo Fine Gael General election candidate Alan Dillon.
This was a call made last month by elected councillors on Castlebar Municipal District, in the wake of general discontent by the public over the cost of using the new facilities.
10 euro swim and gym cost per adult per session is being viewed as expensive by the general public. Many are calling for a separate fee to swim only.
The pricing structures for the new complex have been devised by Mayo County Council and council officials say the prices are in line with similar facilities nationally and insist are needed to ensure the operational costs of running such a complex are covered.
Alan Dillon spoke to Midwest News today about the value of the new facility as the government promotes a “healthy Ireland” but he agrees that the cost initially for users of the facility appears high.
