The death has taken place of well-known Mayo photographer Liam Lyons from Westport.

Mr Lyons was the first Irish photographer to be awarded an Honorary Fellowship from the Irish Professional Photographers Association in recognition of his outstanding landscape photography.

He held many successful exhibitions across Europe and the United States, and his work is on display in many homes around the world, including the White House and Aras an Uachtaráin.

In recent years, Mayo County Council worked with the photographer to digitise and archive 50 years of his photo images from the 1950's, and the collection is available to the public through local libraries.

His work was also published in international newspaper, magazines and books.

Liam Lyons is survived by his wife Mabel, daughters Fidelma and Fionnuala, sons-in-law, grandchildren, his brother Fr Fintan and extended family.

His remains will repose at his residence, Rosswood, West Road, Westport this evening from 5-8pm.

 Funeral service tomorrow at 12.30 in St Mary's Church, Westport with burial afterwards in Aughavale Cemetery.

Mass of the Resurrection will take place on Easter Monday at 12.30.
