A man accused of killing a retired civil servant - who was found bound, gagged and stabbed to death in her home in London - has denied her murder.
55-year old Catherine Burke, who was originally from Co Galway, was found dead at her north London home after police forced entry to the property shortly after 7pm on 16 November 2017, amid concerns about her welfare.
Ms Burke, a mother of one, had lived at the property in Muswell Hill, north London, for around 20 years.
The Irish Independent reports that Scotland Yard launched a murder investigation after a post-mortem revealed she died from stab injuries.
32-year old Kasim Lewis of no fixed address appeared in court yesterday via video link from prison.
He spoke only to confirm his identity and enter a not guilty plea to the charge of murder, said to have been committed between November 14 and 17 2017.
The accused was remanded in custody ahead of his trial which will get underway on July 15.
