Irish Water, working in partnership with Galway City Council, is carrying out repairs to a major water leak on the Headford Road, outside Galway city today. Repairs are expected to take all day and traffic management is in place.
Motorists travelling in the area are advised that long traffic delays are expected this afternoon and if possible alternative routes should be taken.
Water has been disrupted to the following areas: Dun an Coiribe/Gort na Coiribe Housing, Dunnes Stores and Terryland Retail Park, Prospect Hill, and Bohermore.
Since the leak was detected yesterday (Sunday), water has been diverted from other areas of the city to maintain a supply to the Headford Road area. Customers may experience water outages or lower than normal pressure levels in this area while repairs are ongoing and for a while afterwards while water returns to the network.
Irish Water has apologised to customers affected by the unplanned leak and thank them for their patience while the emergency repair works are ongoing.
Irish Water’s Customer Care Team is available 24/7 on 1850 278 278 to answer queries or customers can visit its Supply and Service section on water.ie for updates.
