The only way forward now for the long stalled Mayo Renewable Power plant in Killala to go ahead, is for the promoters to decide to submit a new application to the Energy Regulator (the Commission for the Regulation of Utilities ) for their development.
Mayo Fine Gael Senator Michelle Mulherin told Midwest News today that a constructive meeting took place yesterday between the promoters and the Energy Regulator.
The Senator says it is regrettable that open dialogue had not happened until now.
She says the promoters must now come together in the next short while to discuss matters and decide how they wish to proceed. At this stage the delay in the application process with the Regulator could have an impact also on the viability of the project.
The Senator says she hopes that the major investment at the former Asahi site, can be rescued for the economic benefit of this region as well as helping Ireland achieve its EU binding renewable heat and electricity targets.
