Galway 2020 has today opened a call for communities to develop a project for the cultural programme for Galway 2020, European Capital of Culture.  Funding of €200,000 will be awarded by Galway 2020 across the successful community groups to create and deliver projects.

This is the second round of the successful Small Towns Big Ideas programme which celebrates ‘Meitheal’ – the ancient Irish tradition of coming together for a common purpose.

Interested groups are asked to create projects that demonstrate collaboration, a European dimension and that respond to the core themes of Galway 2020.  Projects can respond to one, two or all of the core themes of LandscapeLanguage and Migration.

Proposals for projects should be submitted through the Galway 2020 website before the closing date of 5pm on 10 May.

Over 50 projects across Galway city and county were awarded funding in the first round of Small Towns Big Ideas, over 20 of which have already taken place with the remainder scheduled throughout 2019.

Galway 2020 will hold a number of information sessions across the county to answer any questions potential applicants may have. Any queries relating to the application process can be submitted via email to This email address is being protected from spambots.
