Six students from the GMIT campus in Letterfrack are competing at this year's Ireland Skills Live Event at the RDS in Dublin, which runs from today until Saturday.

The students are all studying fulltime degree programmes in Furniture Design, Wood Technology and Teacher Education.

Shane McLoughlin from Westport, Aidan Devine from Tulsk in Co Roscommon, Benen Lynch from Tullaghan in Co Leitrim, Lauren Casey from Newtowncashel in Longford,Jack Lynch from Co Cavan and Brian Dillon from Knocklyon, Dublin will be competing in skills areas such as Cabinetmaking, Joinery and Carpentry.

Ireland Skills Live 2019 aims to promote college courses, apprenticeships and traineeships that will help address the serious skills shortage identified in Ireland.

28 different skills are being represented at the event from cookery and beauty therapy to aircraft maintenance.
