Drivers across the country are being warned to take extra care on roads this morning with icy conditions in some areas, but the West has escaped the worst of the cold snap.

Met Eireann has a status yellow snow and ice warning in place for all counties until 8am this morning and temperatures dropped below freezing in some areas last night.

It's causing delays for some flights at Dublin Airport today.

The  frost and ice are making driving conditions more difficult on some roads in Carlow, Naas, Mullingar, Wicklow and on the M7 in Kildare.

Gardai across Mayo say there's been no significant snowfall, but roads are wet in many areas.

Some heavy rain and hail showers are expected across Connacht today, with more wintry  showers on higher ground, with falls of sleet or snow likely.
