The Minister of State with responsibility for Gaeilge, Séan Kyne, will be in the Mayo Gaeltacht village of Eachléim today to officially open UISCE's new centre.

The Irish language college & education centre started out in Elly Bay, Belmullet in 1992, and has now opened a second site in Eachléim.

Founded by ex-Air Corps Captain Ciarán O' Murchú, UISCE is the only fulltime Adventure Centre run through the medium of Irish, where the language is taught through fun outdoor adventure activities such as sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, orienteering, climbing, archery and team-building games.

Over 3,500 students attend courses in UISCE each year, and the addition of a second centre allows for an increase of 220 students per year during the Summer course season.

UISCE currently employs 15 fulltime and 10 part-time staff, as well as 134 seasonal staff and 20 local Bean an Tí's in the north Mayo Gaeltacht.

Minister Séan Kyne is due in Eachléim at lunchtime today to officially open UISCE's new centre.
