The people of Claremorris and its hinterland generally want to see the supermarket chain Lidl locate in Claremorris. That’s the view of local Independent Councillor Richard Finn.
Last month, Lidl withdrew a planning application submitted to Mayo County Council for a new premises in the town.
At the monthly meeting of Claremorris Municipal District earlier this week, Cllr Finn raised the matter and expressed the view that with some adjustments the Lidl application will be re-submitted to the local authority.
He said he has always been in favour of job creation and development in the area and he is confident that working with Mayo County Council planners, the supermarket chain will find a location that complies with planning regulations.
Cllr Finn said he respects the rights of almost 20 objectors locally that had expressed concerns about the development to the local authority, but he said hopefully the concerns raised can be addressed and the supermarket chain will continue to want to locate in Claremorris.
