Snow and ice have been impacting on road conditions across the West this morning, after several inches of snow fell in places overnight and early this morning.

Black ice was also reported on roads across the west.

A status yellow snow-ice warning remains in place until Saturday evening.

Tonight, temperatures are set to fall as low as minus 3 degrees in Connacht, with frost and freezing fog.

Tomorrow will see a mix of rain, sleet and snow with strong easterly winds.

Some school bus services were cancelled this morning due to weather conditions, while St Attracta's Community School in Tubbercurry is closed today.

The Road Safety Authority is advising all road users to take extra care for the rest of the week, while the weather warning remains in place.

Drivers should make sure their tyres are roadworthy, lights and windscreen wipers are working properly and have an ice scraper handy.

In snow and icy conditions, motorists should slow down and leave extra distance from the vehicle in front, used dipped headlights at all times and fog lights in heavy snow and watch out for pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.
