The Labour Party has selected Dominic Hannigan to contest the Midlands / Northwest constituency in the European elections in May.
Mr Hannigan was selected at a Labour Party convention over the weekend
He's a former councillor, Senator and TD having represented Meath in the Dáil from 2011 to 2016.
Dominic Hannigan lives now in Galway, and co-owns the Lough Mask Distillery near Tourmakeady.
He told Midwest News this evening that, as a former Chair of the Oireachtas European Union Affairs Committee, he's well aware of the challenges posed by Brexit and will be pushing for Ireland's interests to be protected in the European Parliament.
