There's a Roscommon connection to the Oscar nominations announced earlier today.

Paul Young, a native of Boyle, is CEO of animation studio Cartoon Saloon, and the company's short film "Late Afternoon" has been nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Animated Short category.

This is the fourth nomination for Cartoon Saloon, based in Kilkenny - having being already nominated three times previously for Academy Awards, as well as the Golden Globe, BAFTA and Emmy awards.

Roscommon FG Senator Frank Feighan has congratulated Boyle native Paul Young and his company for once again putting Ireland on the world stage, thanks to this latest nomination.

Senator Feighan is sending best wishes to the Cartoon Saloon team in the upcoming Oscars ceremony in Los Angeles next month.
