The speed of traffic travelling through the south Mayo village of Kilmaine along the N84 Ballinrobe to Tuam road and connecting onto the R332 Kilmaine to Foxhall road to access the new motorway, is a cause of great concern to local residents.

In addition there is an increasing volume of traffic now using the route.

Residents had asked to address the next monthly meeting of Claremorris Municipal District to outline to councillors their concerns, however, at the monthly meeting of the authority councillors said they agreed with the residents and insisted something must be done to control traffic through the village.

Council officials agreed to present a report to the September meeting of the district outlining potential traffic control measures for Kilmaine, and councillors said as a result, it wasn’t necessary for a local resident delegation to address a municipal meeting.

Local Fine Gael councillor Patsy O’Brien said both he and councillor Damien Ryan would go back to the residents and ensure them that action follows the proposed report.
