The cost of Garda overtime in the Mayo Division increased to over €2.1 m euro last year.
Figures published in today’s Irish Daily Mail show the cost of Garda overtime nationally has soared from €55 m in 2015 to almost €131 m last year.
In the Mayo Garda division, the cost of overtime increased from €1.2 m in 2015 to €1.7 million in 2016, and to €2.1 million in 2017.
In the Galway division, Garda overtime costs soared from €1.5m to €2.4 m last year, and in Roscommon / Longford, Garda overtime costs doubled between 2015 and 2017 – from 733,000 to €1.4m.
The Garda divisions in Dublin North and Dublin North Central had the highest level of overtime last year, with the Kinahan-Hutch gangland feud believed to be contributing to the financial cost.
