Predeceased by his beloved wife Mary, parents Margaret and Michael and his brother Monsignor Terence, sister-in-law Helen Hayes and brother-in-law John Mullooly.

Michael will be sadly missed by his sons John and Pat, daughters-in-law Evelyn O'Connor and Nicola Corless, grandchildren Hazel, Millie, Molly and Will, his sisters Maureen and Louise (Lawrence), sisters-in-law Anne Keane, Agnes Keane and Kay Mullooly, brothers-in-law Michael Lawrence and Tom Hayes, nephews and nieces, relatives as well as his neighbours and many friends.

May he rest in peace

Michael will be reposing in Gavin's Funeral Home, Knox Street, Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo, F35 WF22 on Friday evening from 5 o'clock until 8 o'clock.

Funeral arriving to St. Mary's Church, Gorthaganny on Saturday morning for Funeral Mass at 11 o'clock with the funeral proceeding to the local cemetery.

Hurler, handballer, farmer, bodharan player, a great man to deliver a recitation, gardener, folklorest, and above all a pure gentleman he had it in spades. I was deeply saddened to read of the death of Michael and I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to his sons John and Pat daughters in law Evelyn and Nicola and all the extended families. I first met Michael in 1978 when he and friends were refurbishing the handball alley in Clooncan and later when he built their new home, Michael was a very hard worker but also had time to relax, relaxation being playing handball and some years earlier hurling in his native Tooreen and golf in later years but his association with traditional Irish music transcended everything his ability to compose recitations was yet another of great gifts, his wit and sense of fun, and his ability to connect and engage in conversation with people of all ages also his ability as fear a ti at the heritage nights in Kilmovee are very memorable, , .Michael was a gentleman ,friend , honest and reliable, a legend, who will be missed greatly. Rest in peace good and faithful servant.

He was a real gentleman who will be greatly missed both in his home place of Tooreen and here in Gorthaganny where he came to live for many years. Michael was such a popular and well known man who had many talents, be it sport, music, recitations and in the farming circle. Great memories of meeting Michael at Mass in Gorthaganny and at the many Tooreen hurling matches. He was so proud of his beloved hurling club “Tooreen” where he gave such fantastic service from its beginning to where it proudly stands today. Rest In Peace Michael.

Michael Nolan, a few years ago, welcomed me to Ireland as the "long lost cousin from America." I was very moved by his kind words and his hospitality (and that of his son, John) as he led me and my husband along the Nolan land to the place where my great grandparents had lived. This day was one of the most important days of my life, and Michael was its host. And just a few weeks ago, at the Nolan family reunion in Knock, he hosted us once again with his words, read so beautifully by son John. And once again he filled my heart with love of family and the blessing of laughter. May God bless and keep him forever. Thank you, Michael, for your stories, and for your warm welcome to a lost American who was so happy to return home.
