Martin Keane

Carrowbeg Estate, Westport, Co. Mayo & formerly of Liscarney, Westport. 24th February 2022 - suddenly but peacefully at his residence.

Predeceased by his mother Annie and brother-in-law John (Geraghty), Westport.

Martin will be sadly missed by his heartbroken sister Marie, nieces Eileen and Deirdre, nephews John, Paul and Michéal, neighbours and his many friends.

May His Gentle Soul Rest in Peace.

Community Funeral for Martin will take place on Sunday evening February 27th and Monday February 28th.

Martin will repose at Navin's Funeral Home on Sunday February 27th from 5pm until 7pm followed by removal to St. Mary's Church, Westport.

Funeral Mass on Monday February 28th at 12.30 followed with burial in Drummin Cemetery.

Mass will be live streamed on www.churchtv.ie/westport.

No handshaking in Funeral Home, walk through sympathising only and wearing of face masks is requested.

To all of Martins family...deepest deepest sympathy to you all...we are shocked and saddened to hear of Martain's sudden "passing..."his big heart probably had enough...we had many laughs as i worked as in house florist at the castlecourt...he constantly worried about the health of the geraniums in the plaza hotel..also one of his jobs was to carry the flower vases back and fourth to me...of times he would arrive with all the flowers given away to some of the female guests who were delighted with their gifts.!!martin ....why are the vases empty again? id say...to which he would reply..sure some people need cheering up...aren't they as well to have them as the bin!!? I admired his interest in the youth and sporting events and he remembered and encouraged them all ..even our children.He was a wonderful man in our community and he will be greatly missed...may he rest in peace eternally.

One cannot put into words how much he did for his beloved town, The work that he did for the Westport Community was untold, he always put others before himself . Sport was another great interest, his work with Mayo Community games was immense, , the GAA but above was his beloved Westport Utd, he was so proud to be involved with them. The work that he did with the underage children for soccer in Westport can be seen every day of the week, so many of the underage went on to be great players in the Junior side, these players never forgot what Martin did for them. Besides coaching , he was a great club man, he at all times was pleasant and wanted people to enjoy life and enjoy the games, regardless of which sport.Met Martin a week ago. His greeting to me was Pat Quigley you are welcome to Westport, and he meant it. RIP
