Dan Hoban,

George’s Street, Newport, County Mayo - passed away peacefully on the 14th November at his residence.

Dan will be sadly missed by his loving wife Teresa, daughters Eithne, Teresa, Mary, Ita, Helena, Deirdre, Aileen and Róisín, sons Séan, Donal, Padraig, Eamon and Fearghal, his sister Teresa, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, relatives and a large circle of friends.

Rest in Peace

Reposing in St. Dominick’s Funeral Home, Newport this Wednesday from 5pm to 8pm.

Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 12 noon in St. Patrick’s Church, Newport followed by burial afterwards in Burrishoole Cemetery.

Funeral Mass will be live streamed via the Burrishoole Parish Facebook Page.

In keeping with HSE guidelines regarding Covid-19 please do not sympathise by handshaking and observe social distancing and mask wearing at all times.

Dan and yourself Teresa always made me welcome when I would come to visit you both in your home, while I was over on holiday in Newport, for many years. I have fond memories of sitting in your kitchen and listening to the stories that Dan would tell about the Hoban’s, particularly about my father and grandfather and of the old forge at the side of Newport House. Dan was proud Mayoman who loved his family and I will certainly miss not being in his company again and listening to his stories about when he was a young man in Newport. I will also miss not having the discussions that we often had on the prospects of Mayo Senior Football Team and the possibility of The Sam returning to Castlebar.

It was an honour to meet and talk with a man who possessed such a great knowledge of our people and our place.
I will always remember fondly spending a morning with him in George's Street before an All Ireland. The desire to see Sam back in Mayo again was coming out through his pores.
And every game in MacHale Park was decorated by a chat with Dan in the tunnel.
It was an honour to know such a fine man.
