US President

  • Former US Vice President, with Mayo connections, Joe Biden has officially announced he will be seeking the Democrats nomination to run for US President in 2020

He has formally thrown his hat in the ring today after months of speculation that he would enter the race.

The 76 year old is one of twenty Democrats vying for the nomination to take on DONALD Trump.

Mr Biden visited county Mayo in 2016, when he was the US Vice president.

He has family connections in north Mayo and received a very warm welcome in Ballina, Castlebar and Westport – where large crowds turned out to greet him.

  • The Minister for Communications has warned that people need to respect the office of the US President.

Denis Naughten has refused to directly criticise fellow Government Ministers who've threatened to demonstrate during Donald Trump's planned visit here in November.

But he has said that protesting won't solve any problems.

The Taoiseach claims there's a standing invitation for any US President to come to Ireland, despite the visit coming 'out of the blue'.

Denis Naughten agrees that President Trump is welcome here.

  • Shannon Airport says it will be business as usual at the airport next week, during the visit to Ireland of US President Donald Trump.

However, passengers travelling through Shannon Airport are being advised to allow an additional 15 minutes extra travel time between now and Friday 7th June, as additional security measures are in place on the approach road to the airport and in the car parks.

All visitors to the airport should have photo ID with them.
