The Connaught Telegraph

  • Celtic Media Group, the parent company of The Connaught Telegraph, has confirmed it will continue to publish its five weekly cover price titles – both in print and online – in the face of collapsing revenues due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Group has announced a series of measures that include a number of publishing staff having their employment temporarily suspended.

The numbers involved are not confirmed but the company has paid up all staff in full until the end of March.

Other staff have agreed to work shorter hours next month and all managers within the company have offered to take substantial pay cuts on a temporary basis.

The Group employs just over 90 people in eight different centres including The Connaught Telegraph.

Tom Kelly, editor of The Connaught Telegraph, is calling on the government to put a fund together to subsidise local media through the outbreak.

  • Tomorrow (Friday) is the closing date for receipt of nominations for the 2019 Mayo People of the Year awards.

The awards are organised annually by the Connaught Telegraph, RehabCare and Mayo County Council to honour Mayo people or organisations who have made a difference in their community or county.

There are a number of different categories, and the awards will be presented at a gala banquet in Breaffy House Hotel, Castlebar on 22nd November.

Bernard Hughes of the Connaught Telegraph is encouraging everyone who has picked up an entry form to fill it up and submit it before tomorrow evening.

Completed forms can be handed in at The Connaught Telegraph office on Main St in Castlebar, at MCC offices on the Mall or Rehab building on the Breaffy road in Castlebar.
