• Gardai in Castlebar are appealing for information after a teenager was struck by a car on the Cottage road, Breaffy last night, and sustained serious injuries.

    The 14 year old girl was walking with her dog when the incident occurred between 8.30  and 8.50pm last night.

    The vehicle did not stop. It is described as a dark coloured car.

    The girl was removed by ambulance from the scene and taken to Mayo University Hospital.

    The road is closed to traffic this morning as a garda forensic investigation of the scene is underway.

    Gardai are appealing for anyone on Cottage road, the Breaffy road, or the Belcarra road last night between 8.15pm and 8.45 pm and may have noticed anything unusual or suspicious to contact them, particularly anyone with a dash cam in their vehicle in that area last night, to contact Castlebar garda station at 094 9022222.


  • Gardai in Tuam are investigating a single vehicle fatal road collision at Willaimstown in the early hours of this morning.

    The collision occurred at 2.20am this morning on the Williamstown to Castlerea rd(R360), about a half a mile outside Williamstown.

    The male driver, aged 19, was seriously injured and later pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released, but it's believed the young man is from the area.

    His body was removed to the University Hospital Galway where a post mortem examination will take place.

    The road is currently closed to traffic to facilitate a Forensic Collision examination and diversions are in place. The road is expected to remain closed until about 1.30pm to 2pm this afternoon.

    Gardai are appealing for witnesses in particular for anyone who may have been on that stretch of road between 1.45am and 2.10am to contact them at Tuam Garda station on 093 70840, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.


    An investigation has been launched after a man in his late teens was stabbed in Galway overnight.

    The incident happened at around half three this morning in the St. Francis Street area of the city, not far from Eyre Square.

    A man in his late teens was stabbed and brought to University Hospital Galway with what are described as “serious but non-life threatening” injuries.

    The street was closed for a time for a technical and forensic examination but has since reopened.

    No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.

  • Tributes are being paid to the young woman who died after a debs in Ballinasloe, Co Galway. 

    Jessica Moore, from Loughrea, was partying with friends in a hotel on Sunday night when she became unwell.

    The 19-year-old was pronounced dead in Portiuncula University Hospital , and her post-mortem examination takes place today.

    Jessica was due to receive her Leaving Cert results in St. Raphael's College in Loughrea this morning.
