Professor Brian Dolan

  •  A Castlebar man has been awarded an OBE in the UK's New Year's Honours List.

    Professor Brian Dolan, originally from Riverdale Court in Castlebar, was awarded the honour for services to nursing and emergency care.

    He's one of 238 people being honoured with an OBE - Order of the British Empire.

    Professor Dolan, who trained as a psychiatric nurse in St Mary's Hospital, Castlebar over 30 years ago, is visiting professor of nursing to Oxford Institute of Nursing & Midwifery and he and his wife Lynda are founding directors of Health Service 360, a consultancy company based in Stratford-Upon -Avon.

    Brian is also spearheading a global social movement called #endpjparalysis, recently adopted at Mayo University Hospital, which encourages patients in hospitals to get up and dressed and move about while in hospital.

    Speaking to Midwest News today Brian said he is delighted and humbled with the honour and said he was taken aback and thrilled when he received the news on Friday last.

  • A civic reception will be held next week for Castlebar native Professor Brian Dolan, who recently received an OBE from Queen Elizabeth.

    Professor Dolan, originally from Riverdale Court in Castlebar, was awarded an OBE for services to nursing and emergency care.

    He trained as a psychiatric nurse in St Mary's in Castlebar over 30 years ago and works in the health service in the UK.

    Cathaoirleach of the Castlebar Municipal District Michael Kilcoyne will host a civic reception for Professor Dolan at Lough Lannagh in Castlebar on Friday week next, 18th October.
