Pride of Place 2019

  • Judging in the Pride of Place competition takes place this morning in Straide from  9.30am to 12.30 pm.

    A 20 minute video presentation on the village has been compiled, together with a booklet created from the Straideprideofplace.ie website.

    Everyone in the area is invited to be at Straide hall by 11 am this morning to the meet judges.

    Teas, coffees, and cake together with some traditional music will be available.

    The Pride of Place Competition is an all-island competition, organised by Co-operation Ireland and Local Authorities. It recognises the work being done on a daily basis by communities throughout the island of Ireland.

    There are four Mayo finalists in this year’s competition, representing different categories.

    Straide represents populations under 1,000, Knock 1000-2000 population, Ballinrobe 3,000 to 5,000 population and in the Age Friendly category – Mayo county council’s Intergenerational project.

    The judges have been in Mayo since yesterday visiting the four locations.

     

  • The community of Knock will be putting its best foot forward tomorrow afternoon when the judges in this year’s 2019 Pride of Place Awards will be visiting the Marian village.

    The Pride of Place Competition is an all-island competition, organised by Co-operation Ireland and Local Authorities. It recognises the work being done on a daily basis by communities throughout the island of Ireland.

    The judges will be visiting the four locations today and tomorrow.

  • Straide are finalists in the national Pride of Place Awards 2019 and every effort is underway locally to ensure the village, the birthplace of the founder of the land league, Michael Davitt, will be at its best when the panel of adjudicators visit the village early next month.

    On Tuesday, July 9th, everyone is asked to come out and join in the celebrations in the local community hall where short presentations and talks on Straide and its community spirit will take place, together with music and refreshments.
