• A new playground and carpark can go ahead at the Demesne in Castlerea, after Roscommon County Councilors passed the part 8 planning permission.

The project will mean a refurbished playground for the town, and a new carpark that can be used by people attending both the playground and the public swimming pool.

Locally-based business Harmac Medical has given a large donation towards new playground equipment.

Castlerea-based Fianna Fail Councillor Paschal Fitzmaurice is hopeful the project can get up and running before the swimming pool opens for the Summer season.

He says the development will greatly enhance amenities in the town.

  • Two new playgrounds in Co Mayo were officially opened at the weekend by FG Deputy Michael Ring.

Deputy Ring performed the official opening of both the new playground in Achill Sound and the Aughagower Community Playground.

Funding of €50,000 was provided for the Achill Sound playground under the Clár programme, while in Aughagower, €75,000 was approved under the LEADER programme which was overseen by Deputy Ring in his former Department of Rural & Community Development.

The Mayo TD says play and recreation are fundamentally important for children's development, creativity, and wellbeing, and he was delighted to open both amenities.
