Peadar Tóibín

  • There have been claims that student nurses who are on placement are not being paid for their work.

Last week Health Minister Simon Harris announced that student nurses would be paid for their efforts at tackling Covid-19.

In light of the claims, Aontu leader, Peadar Toibin, has called for the immediate reopening of the written question facility for TDs.

This week the government decided to suspend the Dáil for a fortnight, but deputy Toibin says it's TD's job as elected representatives to ask questions.

  • Ex-Sinn Féin TD Peadar Tóibín intends to launch his new political party by late January and has claimed up to 25 sitting politicians — including a handful of TDs and senators — are already in talks about joining.

Mr Tóibín confirmed the target launch date before a public meeting on the new “grassroots” conservative group in Castlebar tonight.

Tonight's meeting takes place in the Royal Theatre at 7.30pm.

Peadar Tóibín  says he is blown away by the level of support and says there is an avalanche of people who are getting in contact with us.

Speaking to Midwest Radio today Mr. Toibin says many of these people, who are from a Fianna Fáil background or a Sinn Féin background are seriously frustrated that the leaderships of their parties do not represent them anymore.
