  • Michaela Walsh was back in action yesterday when she represented Ireland at the Loughborough International in England.

    Michaela claimed the gold in the u23 women's shot put with a huge throw of 15.97m ranking her inside the top 5 in Europe at the age of 19. 

    Moving up the ranks Michaela also came 1st in the senior category this is an amazing achievement for the talented young Swinford athlete.

  • All eyes turn to the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena this weekend as Ireland’s top athletes return to competition at the Irish Life Health Elite Micro Meet today and tomorrow.

    The event which received Government approval via the Sport Ireland Expert Group will see athletes compete for European Indoor qualification, as well as Category E World Ranking points for all those athletes working towards Tokyo qualification.  A full stream of both days will be available on the Athletics Ireland YouTube Channel.

    Entry is restricted to athletes tracking towards Olympic Games qualification and European Indoor Championships qualification, including senior relay panels. A small number of additional athletes have also been invited to ensure the event is compliant with permitting requirements so that all results are valid for qualification purposes. The participation of each athlete has been approved by Government via Sport Ireland Expert Group.

    With the European Indoor Championships scheduled to take place on the 5th, 6th, and 7th of March in Poland, many athletes will be eager to get back into competitive action at the Covid-19 compliant event.

    Swinford athlete Michaela Walsh will compete in the women's Shot Put this afternoon.

    The National Indoor Champion is due to get her competition underway at around 4:35pm today.


  • The National Senior Indoor Athletics Championships are taking place this weekend in Abbotstown Dublin. Having taken gold two weeks previously at the Under 23 Championships yesterday saw Michaela Walsh move up to compete at the highest level of athletics in Ireland. The young Swinford athlete stormed to victory at the Senior Championships winning gold in the women's 4kg shot putt with a new indoor pb - a full 3 meters ahead of the silver medalist. Michaela will now prepare for the outdoor season where she will compete in both the hammer and shot putt.  

  • The National u23 Indoor Athletics Championships took place in Athlone yesterday.

    Swinford AC's Michaela Walsh dominated the women's u23 shot put winning gold.

    A full two meters ahead of the silver medalist.

    This is Michaela's third year in a row to capture the u23 Indoor National Title.

    At the start of the month Michaela was also announced Swinford AC’s athlete of the year for the 10 consecutive year in a row.

  • Mayo athlete Michael Walsh was in impressive form at yesterday’s Irish Life Health Elite Micro Meet at the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena.

    The Women’s Shot Put saw the Swinford native impress in her season opener with a 15.17 throw.

  • At the English Athletics Championships held  in Bedford today Michaela Walsh has just smashed the Irish U23 women's hammer record with a massive personal best throw of 64.22m breaking the record set by Olympian Eileen O'Keefe back in 2003. At the age of 19 Michaela took gold in the under 23 women's hammer. 

  • It was another very successful weekend for Swinford Athlete Michaela Walsh, winning her 7th All-Ireland Senior Title.

    The 20-year-old moved up the ranks yet again to claim two All-Ireland Senior Titles in both Hammer and Shot putt, at The National Senior Athletics Outdoor Championships, in Dublin over the  weekend.

    Just 3 weeks ago she won quadruple gold at the under 23 athletic outdoor championships in Tullamore, winning four All-Ireland titles in Hammer, shot putt, Javelin and weight for distance.

  • The National Senior Athletics Championships are taking place in the National Indoor Arena in Abbotstown this weekend. Swinford's Michaela Walsh has claimed another senior title winning gold in the woman’s shot putt. This closes of an incredible indoor season for Michaela where she also won the U23 indoor Irish title and just last weekend she claimed her first university title when she won gold and also broke the DCU shot putt record.
